Here we have listed the five upcoming midsize SUVs that are expected to launch in India in the remaining parts of this year
In the remaining parts of this calendar year, the domestic car market is expected to witness the arrival of a host of new midsize ICE SUVs from car producers like Hyundai, Tata and Citroen. Below is a rundown of all the key details we know so far as some of the launches have been confirmed already:
1. Tata Curvv:
Tata revealed the production version of the Curvv concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in February. The electric variant is slated for launch midway through 2024, with its ICE counterpart to follow closely. The ICE model will boast a new 1.2L DI turbo petrol along with a 1.5L turbo diesel mill sourced from Nexon.
The former will produce a peak power output of 125 PS and torque of 225 Nm while the latter will kick out 115 PS and 260 Nm. Buyers will have the option to choose between manual and automatic gearboxes. The midsize SUV coupe will take on Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the likes.
2. Tata Safari & Harrier Petrol:
Amidst the favourable reception of the updated Tata Harrier and Safari, both still feature a 2.0L four-cylinder diesel engine only, delivering slightly over 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Now, Tata aims to diversify their lineups by introducing an all-new 1.5L DI turbo petrol engine, capable of producing 160 PS. This engine could potentially debut before the end of 2024 or in 2025 in both models.
3. Citroen Basalt:
Only a few months ago, Citroen India unveiled the Basalt Vision coupe and it will be launched in the second half of this year. It will be positioned above the C3 Aircross and will lock horns directly with the upcoming Tata Curvv. Based on the localised CMP architecture, the coupe SUV will derive power from the same 1.2L turbo petrol engine, paired with manual and automatic transmission options.
4. Hyundai Alcazar Facelift:
Around the festive season, the Hyundai Alcazar will get a major update taking inspiration from the Creta facelift. The exterior and interior will receive notable changes while the features list will become more premium courtesy of the inclusion of amenities such as ADAS. The 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines will stay put.
