In 2024 CY, the top five auto manufacturers in India – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra and Kia – are expected to launch new electric SUVs. Here we have brought you all the key info:
1. Maruti Suzuki eVX:
The global premiere of the Maruti Suzuki eVX concept took place at the 2023 Auto Expo, followed by the debut of its evolved version at the Japan Mobility Show late last year. It will be available in both single- and dual-motor setups and will be rolled out of Suzuki’s Gujarat plant for domestic and international markets. The five-seater e-SUV is set to have a Toyota counterpart and is touted to have a claimed range of up to 500 km.
2. Hyundai Creta EV:
Hyundai is gearing up to introduce the electric variant of the Creta by the end of 2024 or in early 2025 according to media reports. Rumours are indicating that it might be equipped with a 45 kWh Li-ion battery pack supplied by LG Chem and could potentially feature the same electric motor employed in the base-spec Kona Electric.
3. Tata Curvv & Harrier EV:
The Tata Curvv, scheduled for launch in the coming months, will have an electric range surpassing 500 km per charging cycle. Expected to incorporate a dual motor configuration in its high-spec trims, this midsize SUV coupe will adopt the majority of the design cues found in its concept. Just like the Curvv, the Harrier EV will also sit on the Acti.ev platform upon arrival later this year.
4. Mahindra XUV300 EV & XUV.e8:
Mahindra & Mahindra is set to introduce the XUV.e8 by the conclusion of 2024, utilizing the INGLO platform. Positioned as their flagship electric SUV, it will likely boast a range exceeding 450 km. The design of the Mahindra XUV.e8 will draw inspiration from the XUV700, especially in the rear, while the front end will be similar to that of its concept. The upcoming XUV300 facelift based sub-four-metre XUV300 EV is also under development for launch in mid-2024.
5. Kia EV9:
Boasting a claimed driving range of 541 km in the WLTP cycle, the EV9 is globally available in both single- and dual-motor configurations. It will become the flagship offering from Kia upon arrival. The interior will be packed with features and technologies.
