Aryna Sabalenka’s encounter against Switzerland’s Rebeka Masarova in the Round of 16 at the Berlin Open was suspended midway due to bad light and was pushed to Thursday.

Sabalenka clinched the opening set 6-2 before the umpire suspended the game owing to bad light and dew. The 27-year-old Belarusian was less than pleased with the umpire’s call.

Earlier in the day, Ons Jabeur got the beating of Jasmine Paolini as the Tunisia raced to a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over the Italian on Wednesday. Ludmila Samsonova showed Jessica Pegula the exit door with a 6-7 (8/10), 7-5, 7-6 (7/5) triumph in a game that included a couple of tie-breakers.

“You are stopping the match because she says that side is slippery? I just played two games on that side,” she stated.

Sabalenka, who went down to American Coco Gauff in the final of the 2025 season of the French Open at the Roland Garros, described the defeat as, “the worst final I’ve ever played”.

The Belarussian’s error prone game in the summit clash at the Parisian Capital City helped the 21-year-old to the clay court major.

“I don’t think she won the match because she played incredibly well, but because I made all those mistakes,” Sabalenka said after the game.

However, the top rated player in women’s tennis apologised for letting her emotions get the better of her.

“I let my emotions guide me. I absolutely regret what I said,” she later clarified.
