Dhiraj Bommadevara suffered a heartbreaking loss to Canada’s Eric Peters in a closely fought contest resulting in the Indian archer’s exit in the Round of 16 in the Men’s Individual Archery event.
Indian Archer Dhiraj Bommadevara lost out on the Men’s Individual Round of 16 campaign against Canada’s Eric Peters in a nail-biting shoot-off on Wednesday.
The marksman first competed in the Round of 32 clash against Czech Republic’s Adam Li earlier where he had a dominant win by hitting 10s on seven of his 12 shots against the Olympic debutant.
Bommadevara will be next up against Canada’s Eric Peters, a former Youth Olympics bronze medallist, in the men’s Individual Round of 32 match.

Confident after the win over Li, Dhiraj continued his next match on a dominant note as he claimed two sets out of the first three to start things off.
Despite hitting a perfect score of 30, Peters was able to match his total to tie the fourth set to keep the Canadian alive. The Indian archer wasn’t able to hit another perfect 30 which allowed Peters to take the match onto a shoot-off.
In the high-pressure situation, Dhiraj was able to hit a 10-pointer which was fairly close to the centre. In a shoot-off, the winner is determined with one shot per contestant where the person with the closest shot to the centre takes the win.

The Canadian archer clutched up a 10-pointer of his own which proved to be significantly closer to the centre which gave him the win.
Earlier, Bhajan Kaur dominated Poland’s Wioleta Myszor in straight sets in the Round of 16 Elimination Round to register a 6-0 victory and reach the pre-quarterfinals. World Ranked 45, Bhajan Kaur scored 28, 29, 28 in the three sets to confirm her qualification to the next round. Myszor was not able to find her footing in the match as she struggled with scores of 23, 26, and 22 with only one shot in the inner-10 circle.
However, Ankita Bhakat’s defeat on Tuesday spread some disappointment in the camp as she was eliminated just moments before Kaur’s match.
Despite being just one set away from victory whilst possessing a 4-2 lead, Ankita lost the final two sets and missed out on qualifying for the next stage with a 4-6 loss against Poland’s Wioleta Myszor.
