Mahindra XUV.e8 electric SUV will share many features with the XUV700 and is expected to be launched by the end of this year or in early 2025
Mahindra is actively developing the BE and XUV.e series of electric vehicles for the Indian market. The XUV.e8, tentatively slated for release in December 2024, might launch either later this year or in early 2025. Test prototypes of the XUV.e8 have been spotted multiple times, offering glimpses into its design and onboard features and several elements were recently patented as well.
The brand recently launched the XUV 3XO, essentially the rebranded and facelifted version of the XUV 300 and it will be followed by the five-door Thar, which could go by the name Thar Armada, in August. The Mahindra XUV.e8 will take on with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti Suzuki eVX and its Toyota sibling and Citroen Basalt EV but more directly with the Tata Harrier EV, scheduled for early 2025.
The numerous test sightings suggest that the company is actively fine-tuning the vehicle in preparation for its market launch. This model is expected to draw considerable interest from electric vehicle enthusiasts in India, especially in the upper end of the midsize segment and it will evoke a sense of familiarity as it will have a lot in common with the ICE XUV700.
The Mahindra XUV.e8 concept made its debut in the United Kingdom nearly two years ago. Recent spy shots indicate that the production model will retain several design elements from the concept, particularly in the front fascia. Mahindra’s modern EV design is evident with a closed grille, a continuous LED light strip, and vertical LED headlamps on the bumper.
Furthermore, the rear design will include a tailgate and LED tail lamps similar to those on the XUV700. The interior will showcase a triple-screen configuration with a central touchscreen for infotainment, a digital instrument cluster, and an additional screen for the front passenger. It will also feature a new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, possibly with an illuminated logo, and will feature a suite of connectivity features.
The Mahindra XUV.e8 will mark the debut of the dedicated INGLO skateboard architecture. Given their alliance, its e-motors may be sourced from Volkswagen. Expected to feature an 80 kWh battery pack, it could offer a claimed range exceeding 450 km on a full charge. With dimensions measuring 4,740 mm in length and a wheelbase of 2,762 mm, this EV will boast a roomy interior.
