Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are banking big on hybrid technology and here we have listed the five possible upcoming launches incoroprating hybrid powertrain
As the automotive industry gradually moves towards electrification, many car brands are considering hybrid vehicles as immediate alternative solutions. Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are among those at the forefront, focusing on the development of hybrid powertrains alongside their EV lineup. Here we have explained about the possible upcoming hybridised vehicles from them which include four SUVs and one pickup truck:
1. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara & Toyota Hyryder:
The seven-seater versions of the popular Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are expected to debut in India in the first half of 2025. These models will come with cosmetic updates compared to their five-seater counterparts. Both models will offer a choice between 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol engines.

They will take on Tata Safari which is expected to get a petrol variant in the near future, the Hyundai Alcazar (due for a facelift in the coming months), MG Hector Plus, 7-seater Citroen C3 Aircross, Mahindra XUV700 and others.
2. Toyota Fortuner MHEV & Hilux MHEV:

In recent months, the mild-hybrid variant of the Toyota Fortuner has been introduced globally, along with its Hilux MHEV counterpart. Featuring a 2.8L diesel engine coupled with a 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the duo offers enhanced performance and improved fuel efficiency while lowering emissions. We anticipate the arrival of the Fortuner MHEV later this year or in 2025 and the Hilux MHEV could join the lineup as well.
3. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift:
The refreshed Maruti Suzuki Fronx will reportedly debut sometime next year. Since its introduction, the compact SUV coupe has garnered significant interest amongst customers due to its price point and an expansive range. Being a mid-life update, it could only incorporate minor exterior and interior enhancements.

However, the primary addition will be the introduction of a locally manufactured strong hybrid system, paired with a 1.2L Z series petrol engine, which debuted in the new-gen Swift. It could enable a claimed fuel efficiency of over 35 kmpl but no official confirmation has been made by the brand yet.
